PBS NEWSHOUR / OPENING TITLE
PBS NEWS
PBS NewsHour has been a household name in the United States through crafting reliable, honest, and insightful news programming for generations. As PBS NewsHour increasingly reaches new audiences in the digital sphere, they wanted to update their brand identity to be flexible enough to appeal to audiences of younger generations across emerging platforms while still maintaining consistency across broadcast and digital content.
Adolescent collaborated closely with PBS NewsHour Creative Director, Kojo Boateng on a dynamic set of opening titles. The designs we created inspired the rest of the graphic look for the brand, from the interior graphics to set design for PBS NewsHour.
PBS NewsHour is the flagship program for PBS News and the design of the opening titles for this program served as the ‘hero’ of their brand expression. We crafted the concept, ‘Field of Vision’ to take a sophisticated yet welcoming approach to a modern opening title for PBS NewsHour.
INSITU
Our main visual motif was diagonal bars, representing different news stories, that both cut across and move through the design through a wall of words to illustrate how PBS NewsHour cuts through the noise and creates clarity every day.
Field of Vision pays homage to the previous design of the main titles, and uses the current anthem, building upon the NewsHour’s legacy. The bars move over and through the shapes, and words come together proudly, amplifying the key values of PBS NewsHour.
